Blessing Bags-From our Hearts to Theirs

We have been studying poverty in our local communities and realized how big of an issue it is.Our students decided to volunteer at a local soup kitchen and shelter to learn more and be of service to these organizations They also gave their time to help pack Christmas hampers for local families in need Now, they feel like they should be doing more to help.
With this grant, we would like to continue our study on poverty and design a project that will have a direct impact on people in need.We plan to create "Blessing Bags" filled with hygiene items,socks,water, snacks and motivational messages from the students to be hand delivered to organizations that directly serve our target audience.
Our goal is to raise awareness about the high rates of poverty right in our own backyard and to help provide a glimmer of hope for the recipients of our "Blessing Bags". We want to ensure that those in need realize that there are people who care.

Update (June 21, 2019)

Students at OLCS worked hard this year to make a difference in the lives of those who need it the most! We researched poverty levels in our community and surrounding areas and different facilities and services that work with the poor. We made lists of items that we felt would be beneficial to put in the blessing bags and cross referenced with online lists created by agencies that serve our target demographic.

Update (June 25, 2019)

Our Blessing Bags were graciously accepted by Samaritan House in Brandon, Manitoba. This organization provides food hampers and supplies to the less fortunate as well as provides a warm place to sleep in the winter to keep people off the streets. We were able to donate 40 bags of supplies to help with their cause. Through another grant, our students were able to build 10 extra blessing bags which will be donated to the Bear Clan in Brandon. These volunteers patrol the streets at night, handing out supplies to the homeless. We are very thankful for the opportunity that the CTF has given our students to help pay it forward.
