Make It, Bake It!

Harrington School is a primary(PreK-6) and secondary (sec.1-3) school of 21 students.
A group of students will meet biweekly to create healthy foods for the school healthy snack program and for distribution of a healthier choice of baked goods to the aging senior citizens of our community. During the cooking process the students will learn about using and substituting healthier alternatives ( flax seeds, chia seeds etc.) and to make healthier food choices. They will use a computer program to make a club logo image to attach to the packaged baked goods and to print recipe cards which will be included with the baked goods. A nutritionist will be contacted to ensure that the alternatives being used meets nutritional guidelines, as well.

Update (June 5, 2019)

The Make It, Bake It club has been very busy preparing and making their healthy baked goods to distribute to the Senior Citizens (50+ Club) in the upcoming week.
They have met consistently for a few days back to back, baking and packaging all of their healthy recipes, in order to have lots of baked goodies to pass out to the senior citizens on a predetermined evening.

Update (June 25, 2019)

During the last week of school, The Make It, Bake It club members baked healthy baked goods and delivered it to the local 50+ Club to taste test. It was a success and the 50+ club members enjoyed the goodies so much that they requested the recipes.

The Make It, Bake It project was a great success. The students eagerly volunteered to stay to make and bake the healthy recipes throughout the school year. Everyone learned from this experience, not only how to create a more healthier alternative, but to work and cooperate together and to be proud of their productions. The baked goods were placed at the school snack table once a week, throughout the school year, and it was always well received with praise for the cooks and the healthy baked goods.
