Winter Helping Hands
The Grade 3s created an organization named, Winter Helping Hands as an action for their IB unit Children Activists. The central idea for this unit is “non-government organizations address needs and concerns in communities.” Winter Helping Hands was created to help people that do not have warm clothing for winter. We need your help! By the end of January we are asking the students of St.Clement to donate mitts, toques and scarves. Then we will be donating the warm clothing to student in need in our school as well as to the inner-city schools of Edmonton. Please help us make someone’s winter a little cozier, as we know it is a very long winter here in Alberta!
Update
(December 13, 2010)
Winter Helping Hands has been a BIG success within our school community. The families of St.Clement have generously donated mitts, toques and scarves for the inner city schools in Edmonton. So far about 100 children will be given warm clothing and the donations are still pouring in!!! We can’t wait to see what our final count will be by January.
Update
(January 14, 2011)
Winter Helping Hands has concluded their project. It was a overwhelming success. All the Gr.3 students exemplified their knowledge on how they can actively give back to the community through a Social Justice ACTION.
Having the financial grant addition to support this project we were able to purchase over 20 extremely warm down filled coats for the students at St.Al’s here in Edmonton.
Thank you to Imagine Action for assisting us in making winter Helping Hands a HUGE success. Here are many warm happy kids out there on these blistering cold Alberta Days.
